How can i make a battle.net account if i already have a World of Warcraft account?

So i haven’t played World of Warcraft in about 6 months. before when i played, you didn’t need a battle.net account, just a username and password. but now i have to make a battle.net account and it says my e-mail is already in use. does this mean somebody has stolen it or am i doing something wrong?

Its possible someone has the same email but if it doesnt work just create a new email
